Sermon: Outrageous God

Scripture: Jonah 3:1-10

Summary: What happened when Jonah tried to evade God's plan for him? He was swallowed by a whale and lived for three days and three nights in that whale’s belly without being digested.  Jonah realized that the reason he was there was due to his self-centered decisions.  He didn’t try to blame the storm, the sailors who threw him overboard, or the fish who swallowed him.  God has a way of getting our attention. We need to be honest in talking with God.  We’re so busy with our lives that we need something to bring us to the realization that we have a need for God.  Jonah came to this realization and prayed to God   In his prayer, Jonah acknowledges that salvation comes from God.  There are a lot of Jonah's today who say, don't ask me, God, I can't do it. We run away from what we feel God wants from us. We need to pray for God's help. Self-realization is the key. Realize where we are and whose we are. Jonah got a second chance and so can each one of us because of God's outrageous grace!
